How It Works

The UTI test strips consist of three important components: leukocytes, nitrite, and phosphate. Each of these components plays a crucial role in identifying the presence of bacteria in the urinary tract. The test is conducted by inserting the reagent pad, which contains these components, into a fresh sample of urine. Once the reagent pad comes into contact with the urine, a chemical reaction occurs, causing the pad to change color. This color change is a result of the interaction between the components on the pad and the bacteria present in the urine. After a specified waiting time, the color of the pad is compared to a color chart provided on the bottle.

Interpreting the Results

‘The UTI test result is determined by visually comparing the reagent pad’s color change to the corresponding color block on the color chart. Each color block signifies a specific bacterial level, enabling a precise assessment of the infection’s severity. A match between the reagent pad’s color and the color block that indicates a positive result denotes the presence of UTI-related bacteria, necessitating further medical evaluation and treatment. Conversely, if the reagent pad’s color aligns with none of the chart blocks, it implies a negative outcome, signifying no UTI-causing bacteria.’
